SUMMARY:EXTENSION OF TIME AND ROLE OF THE PRINCIPAL AGENT WEBINAR - 26 Aug
 ust 2025
DESCRIPTION:JBCC MAY 2018 6TH EDITION: CLAUSE 23.0\nGUIDELINES ON HOW TO AD
MINISTER EXTENSION OF TIME FOR PRACTICAL COMPLETION\nSESSION 1\nJBCC May 2
018 6th Edition: Clause 23.0 Guidelines on How to Administer Extension of
Time for Practical Completion\n\n• Delays where the contractor is not at
fault would normally constitute a valid claim for (EOT).\n• Delays affe
cts critical path of projects.\n• Confirming a delay and/ or disruption
is not an easy task: it is a time-consuming process\, especially in multif
aceted projects with thousands of activities\, a lot of details\, as well
as the involvement of many stakeholders.\n• It is important for clients\
, contractors\, sub-contractors\, and consultants to understand the fundam
ental requirements of compiling a successful EOT claim\, and the adjudicat
ion of claims submitted.\n• These training notes will provide those invo
lved in the preparation and adjudication of EOT claims under the JBCC with
some essential information to deal more productively with this complex ma
tter.\n• On larger projects\, the magnitude of time-related costs can ea
sily run into millions of rand. With so much at stake\, it is understandab
le that delay claims are a major source of disputes in the construction in
dustry.\n• The proper assessment of delay claims is essential so that th
e parties can deal with it without having to resolve the dispute in expens
ive and drawn-out arbitration or litigation processes.\n\nSESSION 2\n\nJBC
C MAY 2018 6th Edition: Understanding The Roles of The Various Role Player
s Involved in The Building Contract with Emphasis on The Role of The Princ
ipal Agent\n\n• The building contract involves a host of role players to
establish a successful project - role players all have specific functions
to be performed within specific boundaries\, with specific powers entrust
ed to them.\n• Role players must work together to ensure a successful pr
oject is completed within timeframes and with professionalism\, integrity\
, honesty and moral standards.\n• Some functions are regulated by contra
cts between role players\, but others are governed by the standards laid d
own by society – the so-called boni mores of a community.\n• Role play
ers must be aware of the impact of their actions.\n• It is imperative th
at all parties involved in a project have proper detailed knowledge of the
ir respective roles\, powers\, duties\, timelines and application of speci
alised professional contributions to the “team.”\n• It is the functi
on of the principal agent to bring all the aspects\, required for a succes
sful building project\, together in a coordinated and orderly manner.\n•
The role of the principal agent therefore requires a proper understanding
or else a project may fall apart to the detriment of all parties involved
.\n• If the role of the principal agent is not fully understood\, chaos
may be the result in which all parties suffer financial loss\, impaired re
putations and environmental damage.\nVIRTUAL SEMINAR COST : \nSingle dele
