Summary about the course

The Joint  Building  Contracts Committee® NPC as the author of  the  JBCC® suite  of  building contracts invites you  to attend an interactive virtual seminar on the appropriate application of the 2018 JBCC® Edition 6.2 Principal Building and N/S Subcontract Agreements, and its supporting documentation, with reference to the 2018 JBCC® Edition 5.2 Minor Works Agreement and the requirements applicable to Organs of State contracts. In addition, the two new 2020 JBCC® contracts, the Small and Simple Works Contract and the Direct Contractor’s Contract, will be introduced.

Outcomes:

After completion of the course you should be able to:

  • Identify the important role of the JBCC documents in the South African building industry;

Expert Facilitators:

Prof Tinus Maritz is a Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor, a life member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors and a fellow member of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa). He has vast experience in practice and academia, specialising in the field of construction law during the latter part of his career. As the CEO of the JBCC, a body which he has served on for many years, he brings a wealth of experience to the panel as an authority on the JBCC suite of contracts.

Gerard Damstra qualified as architect in 1981, was admitted as advocate in 2018 and is a member of the Construction Adjudication Association of South Africa. Besides knowledge and experience in the fields of architecture and contract law, he has gained extensive experience in legislation that governs state procurement and processes through his involvement and past employment in the public sector. He served on the JBCC Contract Drafting Panel and cooperates on an ongoing basis with the JBCC structures in the development of new contract formats and associated documentation.
